Dambulla, Sigiriya, Habarana

Hi ,

We are on short trip to Colombo ( 13th to 17th of Oct 2013). We will be based in Colombo ( Sands by Aitken Spencer). What is the best way to cover Dambulla, Sigiriya, Habarana, while still keeping our hotel in Colombo as base.

What are the site seeing options in Colombo

Thanks for your response

Dambulla, Sigiriya, Habarana are too far from Colombo for a day trip. By car it will take approx. 5 hours each way.

Hi Hans,

Thanks,

1.what options we have keeping Colombo as Base and then doing site seeing of adjoining attractions.

2. If we have to cover Dambulla, Sigiriya, Habarana where is the best place to stay overnight ( within Budget 2 adults +one child)

Hi Sunita,

Any of these 3 is close enough to the other ones, and Giritale is a 4th option.

Plan the day carefully, most sights are offlimits between noon and 2-3 PM due to the midday heat; that's another reason not to do as a daytrip as your time in Triangle would exactly be then...

All the best,

Hi. Which specific sights would be off limits during noon and 2-3? Only if you know some. I have drawn up a plan for my Cultural Triangle trip (based in Polonnuwara) so it would help to know.

Thank you!

Hi there,

Sigiriya rock for sure, start climbing before 10:30 AM or after 3 PM. The P'ruwa temple zone for most people, unless you bring a brolly for the sun and thick socks to prevent feet soles burning from then warmed up stones (the whole area, being sacred, must be walked shoeless).

All the best,

That's good to know. Never thought of thick socks before.
