Luggage and immigration formalities at the airport shouldn't take more than an hour, so you have effectively 4 hours to get to Colombo Fort, which is more than enough.

The cheapest way would be to take a bus to Colombo Fort from the Airport. Bus number 187 goes from the airport gate to the airport bus depot and then to Colombo Fort station. One ticket would be about 100-200 Lankan Rupees.

Taking a private taxi might take less time (especially with the opening of the new expressway between the Airport and Colombo city) but it'll cost you around 2500-3000 Lankan Rupees.

Yes bus 187 is 53 rupees, and takes 90 mins at most. Same airport stop also has the E03 buses which take maximum 1 hour by taking the new E-way and cost 130 rupee.

All the best,

Thanks for the reply. One more question - how much for a taxi which shows me Sri lanka for 8 days ? Is there something like per km charge?

Please search the forum for "car hire" for more details.

Rates are about Rs75 per km and other conditions.

Best contact a travel agent to get a detailed quote.

Yes that Rs 75/km is for one-way hires. The roundtrip, as asked in #4, is around Rs 45/km; but there's a minimum daily mileage of about 100-150 km and you are responsible for drivers quarter/food.

Cheapest way to get to Kandy is walk out the airport turn left and stop right there on the main road. A bus will stop and take you all the way to Kandy. It will be much quicker than a bus and a train. It can get crowded though.
