should i consider moving to another resort help please

Please can anyone offer any help, i have booked up for me and the hubby a week on the 15th may to marmaris staying at the club anastasia on a self catering option. Now i have read so much on forums about the hassle you get there and i am so confused we usually like the less busy resorts but this was such a great deal we decided to take it and then maybe not take the apartment. We have always fancied the ole deniz area or somewhere close to there and there are some good deals on accommodation there but would like some info please. We believe the hassle you get in marmaris can be very wearing and as we are only there for a week i feel it may just ruin a well needed holiday is the ole deniz area defo, less hassle. A friend of mine stayed there and as soon as i told her we have booked for marmaris she said that knowing us we will not like the place. So any help please as i would rather pay for another place even though club anastasia gets great reviews the resort itself maybe the wrong place. cheers Dee

oh dear so many people love Marmaris it may be perfect for you and if the hotel gets a good write up may be worth a try, hassle in the resort, guess it does get annoying look at my menu, come on this trip on and on, however either no eye contact or a polite no thanks works, however Marmaris is my idea of hell it is too busy and big and English for me as in Mac Donalds Roast Dinner English Breakfast you know the thing Benidorm, so yes Oul Deniz is nicer in my opinion or b etter still Kalkan or maybe Turunc . If you dont change resort dont worry too much you can go on nice trips and get the water taxi to Turunc each day for a bit of peace and quite.

Why not try Icmeler. It's next to Marmaris, but much nicer. Then you could visit Marmaris for a day.

You should find some reasonably price apartments or hotels there.

Have you booked the flights?

hi, we stayed in Turunc, around the corner again from Icmeler, and it was peaceful and scenic. We knew during a visit that marmaris would have been a nightmare for us, couldn't wait to leave, but met people who loved it. But then they couldn't understand how we could stay somewhere as quiet and 'boring' as Turunc!

maybe this could help you decide, depending on your preferences!

our holidays are too short and precious to waste...

Have you been to Turkey before? Because the way they try to catch your attention to sell you something - be it their restaurant, bar or a carpet! - can be considered a "hassle" but that (and haggling) is the way they do business. As others have said - a polite "no thanks" and keep going does the trick. Or alternatively, stop and listen to the guy and look at his menu and then walk away and say maybe another night - and from then on he will probably just greet you like an old friend. But this is the norm anywhere in Turkey.

Its only a week - 15 May is still very early season so the area shouldn't be so busy. I am sure you can also avoid the busiest parts of town - eg the bar street - if that's not for you, don't venture there. You say your accommodation gets good reviews - so why not stick with it. If when you get there you realise it isn't for you, it must be easy enough to hop down to Icmeler or Turunc nearby and find somewhere else to stay.

I am sure you will have a good time anyway!

Thanks to all who have taken the time and trouble to reply back to me. This is the first visit to turkey for us and i booked a package with a teletext first choice deal, so flights, hotel apt, inflight meals and transfers were all for £369 for the 2 of us so you can see why i jumped at this deal lol, i am considering booking another area as thompson website have some good deals for hotel only for about £100 for the week so still would be a good deal but the flight is into dalaman so please can you advise on areas that are really nice like ole deniz but which are closer to dalaman airport as ole deniz i think is served by bodrum airport and I think it may well be to far away to get to.

It seems to be a very long way from dalaman about 100klm + another thing i was considering was as someone i think has mentioned go to the resort hotel and then book into somewhere else if we did not like it, all info anyone can help me with is all welcomed. Thanks to all in adavance and again for the posts above.

If you don't like commercial places then Icmeler has just the right mix. We went to Olu Deniz and Marmaris and both were commercialised. I don't like places where everything is 'in your face'. Icmeler has both options, if you want the night life it is there, but if you want peace and quiet in the mountains, the option is there also. We took a 2 year old and 5 year old and they had a whale of a time in Icmeler, nothing is too much trouble from the maids to the Managers!

No deelicious - you have your bearings all wrong there! Both Marmaris and Olu Deniz are served by Dalaman airport, and if anything, Olu Deniz would be the nearer. Transfer from airport to Olu Deniz would take about 60 - 90 mins I imagine, heading along the coast towards the East, whereas Marmaris is a good 2 hours (again I guess) in the opposite direction - ie to the West.

Do not worry about hassle as the mayor closes down bars, shops and restaurants for 3 days if they hassle you.I have been going to Turkey for 15 years, sometimes 3 times a year and have been to most resorts except Bodrum so I would stick with your original booking.Marmaris is a big busy resort but the harbour and Marina are beautiful and the view out to sea along the coast path is amazing. We are an older couple and I would go to Marmaris again but I would not go back to Olu.I got more hassle here and was insulted by a man outside a jewelers shop when I said I didnt want to buy anything and I was just looking in the window.I am not sure where Club Anastasia is but it has good reviews and that alone is important.
