Which beach town to choose

We just came back from Istanbul and had a blast. We are now thinking of renting a villa somewhere on the Turkish coast this summer (June-july) and have a hard time figuring what would be a good town. We are looking for something more in the line of authentic and rustic town with great food rather than a beach-side resort with tons of people and focus on nightlife. Our kids are young teenagers.

Where to go – where to look for rentals. We are looking for a Biot-like town rather than Rimini in Turkey?

Is renting a villa a good choice in Turkey or should we look at other alternatives?

Any tips on flights in the summer from Finland to Turkey – can we buy just plane seats on a charter flight?

The goal is to spend a week by the beach then rent a car for a week and go and see sights – Cappadocia, Efesos et al.

Hi peba,

I would suggest Dalyan.

You will find some nice villas there, the area is beautiful, the beach outside but very nice and the town is touristy but not too much. It fits to adults as well as to teenies.

Another suggestion would be Fethiye and Kas or Kalkan.

It seems that most of the regulars are off for Easter but I´m sure you will get some more suggestions pretty soon.

There are some nice places on the Bodrum Peninsula that you could take a look at. There are always lots of villas to rent around Yalikavak and GUmumsluk and both these are small seaside resorts with good restaurants but not hordes of tourists. Another place to look at could be Ortakent.

There are other similar resorts in other parts of Turkey and I'm sure someone will be along soon with some more suggestions

Renting a villa would certainly be great.

Thank you for the great comments.

Having checked online I'm weary of going in July – seems to be amazingly hot. How is early / late fall, say September?

We have mostly been there in September. It was pretty hot during the first days (about 30 - 35°C and more), cooled down to about 25 - 28°C, and it began to become a little cooler at night, about 20°C.

But one year it was more than 30°C at the beginning of October, you never know it in advance.

It has always been a good time for us. You can do some more things, EG walking or sightseeing, if it isn´t that very hot.
