Quite resort either 1 hour transfer from dalaman or bodrum

Hi

Can someone recommend where to stay in turkey, we would like to be no more than an hours drive from bodrum or dalaman airport.

We would like to be within walking distance to a beach, a small quiet resort with restaurants and shops. We would be renting a villa.

Thanks in advance

Corinne

There are some lovely resorts within an hour of Bodrum airport. Have a look at Bitez, Yalikavak, Gündogan, Gümüslük, Torba or Otrakent.

Hi corinne,

Is being walking distance to a beach a must? Other than that, Dalyan sounds like it would be perfect for you as it's a great little town with stunning scenery, an excellent choice of shops, restaurants and bars etc plus it's only 30 mins from dalaman airport. Dalyan is actually built on the banks of a pretty river but nearby iztuzu beach aka turtle beach is absolutely beautiful and was recently voted turkeys best beach by trip advisor reviewers. It's a nesting site for turtles so building on the beach itself is prohibited which is why the town is set back but the trip by water taxi down the winding river or by bus through the mountains is cheap, efficient and really picturesque.

Most visitors to the town go self catering and there's a fantastic choice of villas on sites like owners direct and villa renters. There are no high rise buildings, no big hotels or all inclusives and no international fast food restaurants. The town is very flat so easy to get about and no need for a car but it's also a great base if you did want to explore that area of turkey as its between fethiye and marmaris.

We have been to many resorts around turkey but its Dalyan every time for us now. in our opinion, the town strikes the perfect balance by not being too big and commercialised but not being too quiet or isolated either. Oh, and the short transfer time is a definite winner! Dalyan is a very laid back resort and appeals mostly to couples and families.

Have a look at the Dalyan forum on here to get a better idea about the place...

All the resorts I mentioned have only 1 or 2 streets of restaurants and a few bars, they also have nice beaches.

Thanks again for your advice, I had looked at dalyan but really wanted a beach, but I will look again thank you. Has anyone been to gocek?

We are thinking about hiring a car but worried about driving, I have an irrational fear of steep drops so I think I'm going to struggle.

Please keeping giving me advice I have looked at all the resorts mentioned so far and will keep looking, then we will sit down an decide which one we like the most.

Thanks

Corinne

Hi Corinne,

have you thought of flying into Antalya ?? If you are looking for a small resort you could look at Cirali as a quiet alternative located 90 minutes from the antalya airport....stunning beach, lush forests..an idyllic, concrete-free paradise, and sparkling clear seas. The Cirali Beach is also a rare opportunity to visit one of the Med’s few remaining nesting sites for loggerhead turtles.

plenty of great beaches on the med.

a few places come to mind...perhaps Dalyan, Cirali, Patara and Side just to mention a few.

many beaches in Turkey are shingle beaches with mixes of sand and pebbles. There are only a few real sandy beaches..like Patara, Lara beach, Belek and Side..but for beautiful scenery and clear beaches many shingle beaches are better in my opinion.

some of the best beaches are from Antalya - Fethiye

many factors will determine which resort you wish to visit first being which airport to fly into. Dalaman, Antalya, or Bodrum

On the Bodrum peninsula you won't really need a car as all the resorts are well served by dolmuş (bus).

Have a look at this website from a regular poster to give you an idea of what the different resorts are like. Many of them sound like what you are looking for.

Bitez , Yalikavak , Gündoğan ,Torba , Ortakent as said above.
