visiting classical sites without hiring a car

We are planning to visit Turkey in April/May, visiting relatives in Istanbul for a few days and then touring some of the classical sites for a week/10days.. We do not want to hire a car. I am also interested in wild flowers which I have been told will be good at that time. Can anyone recommend a tour which might suit us? I have looked at a tour with Explore but they do not give much information about the hotels they use, describing them as 'standard' which does not sound too good.

for shorter distances Turkey has vast system of inter city coaches. ...There are minibuses called dolmus, and you can find out the bus times at the otogar ( bus stations )

also for longer destinations I would always fly as it is cheap and much quicker than spending 10-12 hrs on an overnight bus.

Hi,

Another option is a private tour with your own guide and driver. You can discover and visit most of the highlights in Turkey in 10 days.Fly to İzmir from İstanbul and visit Ephesus. Then drive to Mediterranean Coast from Pamukkale and stay in Antalya. Then drive to Kapadokya via Konya.Turkey Explorer is doing this privaye tours with hotel names too.You can get a price and more details if you send an e mail to aykutantalya@mynet.com

Fly to İzmir stay in Kuşadası 1 night

Ephesus 1 night

Pamukkale 1 night

Antalya 2 nights

Konya 1 night

Kapadokya 2 nights

I would head for Selcuk (fly Istanbul-Izmir) and stay there for 3 nights, visiting Ephesus and a tour of Priene/Miletus/Didyma. And then head for Pamukkale for Hierapolis and a tour from there to Aphrodisias and Laodicea.

And then head for Antalya (hourly buses from Denizli) for Perge, Aspendos and Side (and Termessos?) before flying back to Istanbul from Antalya.
