No more ear pain when aircraft is descending!

Even if İ can help one person traveling I am already very happy to have helped out. Me and my daughter always have this problem. For my daughter it is so bad that she is always crying which does not add to a pleasant journey.

We tried everything from slowly blowing air into the middle ear, or chewing sweets or distracting by keeping her talking, it did not hep. This year as I mentioned this before traveling to an ear specialist he told me to take one antihistamine before flying. So what I did was hide one tablet (and they are really tiny!) in the food that comes during the flight. I took one myself to check the result. A miracle, nothing at all, my daughter who knew nothing of the trick, said afterwards she had no pain in her ears. I am so pleased that finally (after 11 years!) we can save her the pain.

Oooh, now that is interesting both from a personal point of view of one who also suffers rather badly during flight descent but also I wonder how this works?

That is,we know that the ear pain is caused by air pressure change but antihistamines work to alleviate a very different type of stimulus;so I wonder how and why this is effective.

If ever you speak to that specialist again do ask him how this works as I am very curious to know.Whatever the reason I am certain thousands will be trying this soon-me amongst them :)

Thank you for passing on this extremely helpful tip.

He is coming in June, if I talk to him before I will ask him for sure! Believe me it worked! He told me to take like one hour or so before take off but that is for us a bit dodgy, how to give a child medicine just like that at check in or so, she would refuse or at least start a tantrum... So I waited till during the flight and as the meal comes like 2 hours before descending it is apparently enough time.

as your ears, nose and throat are all connected I can see this working ..also in the past when I had very bad bloked ears for 1 month due to altitude change the specialist recommended nose drops..and since I am also prone to allergies an antihistamine is also recommended for me

have a read here

How interesting! I don't get ear pain myself but it would be great for those that do. Thanks for sharing :)
