Help with Itinerary for 2 weeks in Turkey - June 2014

Hello Kind People,

Will you be able to help me chalk up some sort of an itinerary for my much anticipated trip to Turkey this summer? We, my husband and I who are in our mid-30's, plan on taking the trip sometime in June. We are nature/wild-life enthusiasts and after scrounging through the forums I think I wish to visit these places - Istanbul (3 days?), Fethiye (3 days), Cirali and the nearby areas (3 days), Kas (2 days), Greek island Meis (2 days). I don't know if the number of days are sufficient in each place and in what order I should be visiting them. Transportation is another question? How do we go about travelling from one place to the other? Drive? We are open to driving but don't want to be driving all the time and are open to flying as well though we'd love to travel by trains as well.We like to travel in leisure and at a relaxed pace.

We'd love to go to the off-the-beaten path kinda places and soak in the atmosphere, culture, and of course meet with the lovely people. Do you guys have other suggestions for places to visit?

We are lacto-vegetarians - will finding veggie food be an issue at any of the places. I read that veggie food is readily available all throughout Turkey but I don't mind the reassurance.

Regarding the cost, I read that $50 per person per day is reasonable for meals and $25 pppd for transportation/fees/souveniers - so $150 pppd for two people sounds reasonable/ extravagant/too little?

I am already enjoying the planning process and am hoping you'd help me with the same.

Thanks much.

Looks like its a little difficult getting answers on this forum. so, I will ask again. Can someone give me some pointers regarding travel between the places in my itinerary and if i have allotted ample time to all the places?

Will appreciate it!

Hi and welcome to the fourms :=))

these plans look good. from Istanbul fly to Dalaman airport and there are buses to get to Fethiye

use this link to find the times there are HAVAS buses from the airport to Fethiye..just click on fethiye and then from airport

havas.net/en/…Dalaman.aspx

then after your time in Fethiye take the Bati antalya buses to Kas.. after Kas same bus line will take you to Cirali

here are the timetables

http://www.batiantalyatur.net/?pnum=30&pt=Fethiye-Antalya(Sahilden) coastal route

http://www.batiantalyatur.net/

there are no trains along the coast or from Istanbul to Fethiye

the order you should do your trip is Istanbul ( 3 or 4 days ), Fethiye (3 days), Kas (2 days), Greek island Meis (1 day). Cirali and the nearby areas (3 days), or you can also leave the time for Istanbul at the end of your journey..also the nights you ahve planned in each area is good..

this is no problem plenty of vegetarian options available

ıf you are nature/wild-life enthusiasts you will love Cirali..just what you are looking for..

from Cirali you can fly from the Antalya airport back to Istanbul

you dont need a car

Also the famous '' Chimaera '' burning mountain is located in the north end of the Cirali village...

This is the Chimaera or Yanartaş as it is know in Turkish .....Yanartaş - The mystical flames at the Chimaera. The Chimaera, a series of flames issuing out of cracks in the bare hillside, is one of the most unusual sites in the whole of Lycia.

Thank you so much, Canmom. Your suggestions are reassuring. I will look in detail at the bus services. So, you mean to say we don't really need to rent a car to explore all these places along the coastline. Once we are at a place, say Kas, we can pretty much see the area by buses, boats etc.? Also, can I sneak in Pamukkale along here somewhere? Also, did you have any pointers regarding the over cost for meals and transportation on our trip for two vegetarian-teetotalers? Thank you!!!

PS: You photos are spectacular, to say the least!!!

hi again mysticismandme,

you are most welcome for the help and glad you enjoyed my photos. ..you dont really need a car to travel along the coast however if you wish to visit some of the out of the way historical areas it is better to have a car to get around..

If you want to sneak in Pamukkale some where in your trip I would do this;

the order you should do your trip is Istanbul ( 3 or 4 days ), fly to Denizli airport to visit Pamukkale 1 night , bus to Fethiye (3 days), Kas (2 days), Greek island Meis (1 day). Cirali and the nearby areas (3 days), or you can also leave the time for Istanbul at the end of your journey..also the nights you ahve planned in each area is good..

I think if I remember correctly there are 2 dailly flights from Istanbul to Denizli airport with turkish airlines ( starting at 74 liras pp for a ticket )

turkishairlines.com/en-int/…DNZC5BA43IST

also Pegasus airlines offers a flight from SAW airport to Denizli starting around 60 liras pp
