Turkey in April

We are considering going to Turkey the end of April 2014 but can't quite work out what the weather will be like. Appreciate weather is unpredicatable but any thoughts/comments appreciated. We are looking at Side. Basically want to lounge in the sun for a week - good idea or not?!! Thanks in advance for any comments back.

Hi OxfordshireOwl,

Just popping in to mention that we've moved your topic here to the Turkey forum as it was initially misplaced in the UK forums. Hopefully you'll get a lot of great advice from our many knowledgeable members here. Good luck with your research!

hi OxfordshireOwl,

welcome to the forums. here is the weather reports from last year in april for Antalya

it sounds like Cirali would be the perfect place for you to relax and inwind and enjoy the spring sun. if you prefer a quietish resort then have a look ..transfer time 1.5 hrs from the Antalya airport...1 hrs drive from the city.

Cirali ( Çıralı ) is a very lovely and unspoilt area...with Olimpos Roman ruins scattered in a pine forest, a secluded 4km non-touristy beach, fertile fields, and the Chimaera, the world's oldest and best-known natural "eternal flame". Also a natural nesting-ground for carretta carretta (loggerhead turtles).

the Chimaera or Yanartaş as it is know in Turkish .....Yanartaş - The mystical flames at the Chimaera. The Chimaera, a series of flames issuing out of cracks in the bare hillside, is one of the most unusual sites in the whole of Lycia.

I think it is best described in an article from the travel.timesonline.co.uk

Far from the package-holiday hordes, Turkey has dozens of pristine beaches, among the finest of which is Cirali, a long stretch of fine white sand at the mouth of a towering canyon. The beach, an easy walk from the ruined city of Olympos, is a protected nesting ground for loggerhead turtles. After dark, lights on the shore are extinguished so as not to confuse the hatching babies. On a moonless night, the view of the Milky Way is phenomenal.

You’ll find no banana boats or disco bars at Cirali, just a perfect two-mile beach lapped by clear blue water, and walking trails that will take you into the drama of the surrounding coastal mountains.

We've been to Turkey at the end of April a couple of times and the weather has always been good. Have a look at www.wunderground.com, search for Antalya and then near the bottom of the page you can search the weather history of previous years. As well as a lovely beach there is lots to do in Side so am sure that you'll enjoy it there.

I am sure you will love Side. It has the 2nd longest sandy beach in all of Turkey - turtles - a pretty little harbour - boat trips - a Saturday market - a promenade that goes on for miles and miles along the coastal edge, passing bars shops and restaurants along the way - lots of Roman ruins and an active amphitheatre.

Yesterday it was 22 degrees there, but these are the average temperatures for APRIL

Day-time temperature - 21 degrees

Night-time temperature - 11 degrees

Sunshine hours - 8

Rainy days - 7

Water temperature - 17
