Ramadan in Turkey

We have just realised our upcoming trip coincides with Ramadan.

Is there anything special we need to be aware of in order to respect this practice while visiting Istanbul and further afield?

My husband is worried that all the good local restaurants will be closed for lunch...

G'day Bel-Ware,

The only thing you need to make sure of is to not go trying to find places to eat during sunset time as that is when the locals fasting will be breaking their fast so most restaurants will be chockers.

Sunset during Ramadan in Istanbul will be more or less at 2045 so try to eat before or after this time to avoid the rush of locals.

Life will continue as usual and all good local restaurants will remain open for lunch as well as other times.

That's perfect as we have kids with us they usually want to eat early.

It sounds like a fun time to be there with drums at night and a festive atmosphere.!
