Welsh51, Only Grand Bazaar is closed during June 25-26-27. However you can visit it on the 28th. Everything else is open during bayram, including museums (state museums open at 1.00 pmon 25th). Transportation is as usual, no difference. More inter city bus services and airline flights, but that should not interest you. All malls are open during bayram, but private street level stores will be mostly closed on the first day of bayram. They will be open though at major streets, like Istiklal, Bagdat, etc.
good luck,

Thank you for a prompt reply, it has helped me loads.
Good to see another Cardiffian venturing over to this great city!
Enjoy...
Thanks for the thumbs up, i have never been abroad, my 19 years old has complained of that. This is the reason for the trip, can advice on places to visit, I have 19 year old, 14 year old and 8 year old , which would keep them amused. Thanks
We took our 16 & 18 year olds with us...I didn't think they'd enjoy it but the LOVED ISTANBUL!
Also went for 5-6 days.
I'd fit in a trip to Eyup; visit Ortakoy; Hagia Sophia; Topkap Palace; obviously the Blue Mosque; street food/ice cream shows; halal McDonalds/BK; Basilica Cisterns; Bosphorus cruise
Not in any particular order :)
Edited: 6 years agoWelsh, Miniaturk, Rahmi Koc Industrial Museum, Istanbul Aquarium, all grand historic mosques like Blue Mosque and Suleymaniye, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, Galata Tower, Istiklal Street, Galata Bridge, Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar, Bosphorus cruise, Bosphorus walks, and many more activities will keep all of you amused.

We also used the metro/tram system everywhere. Just buy 1 istanbulkart with top up and swipe 4 times.
Simple. Clean. Efficient.
Unlike the Orange buses you are used to....
Thank you again, you both have been stars at guiding me for my trip. You both have a good summer
Welsh, I first took one of my daughters to Istanbul when she was about 14 or 15, and at the far too cool for anything stage..... she wasn't so cool in Istanbul - she absolutely loved it!
Preparation is key to a good holiday - get yourself a good guidebook such as DK Eyewitness, and have a look at all the info tabs along the top of this page- especially the Things to Do page. Set your 19your old on the case of choosing a few things to suit all of you and drafting a rough itinerary. Spend idle moments browsing this forum..... you'll learn heaps!
A few ferry trips would be nice for all of you- over your the Asian side and use the ferry if you venture up the Golden Horn to Eyup or Rahmi H Koc Museum. I'm not sure an 8yr old would particularly enjoy the longer Bosphorous cruises you might see mentioned.
If your sons like football, you could always show them the Vodafone Arena which is about 200metres from Dolmabahce Palace (also worth visiting - just from the outside)
Both the stadium & Palace are impressive. Simple to get to on the tram
