Turkish music

In one of the recent posts (about meyhanes and raki!) MuretAnkara mentioned "good Turkish music" - and also mentioned "Zeki Muren".....

Having just come back from Istanbul and suffering all my usual withdrawal symptoms, can anyone recommend some 'good Turkish music' that I can listen to when I am thinking back to our visits?

I tried to translate "Bekle bizi Istanbul" to the best of my ability ( not a poet :-(.....)

When the light breeze

of the dawning light

I Think of you Istanbul,

from afar,

you with your ships

ripping through bluest linens.

Your dusks at Halic,

your Spring at the Islands,

Sunny days at Suleymaniye.

Oh! How beautiful

the city of our fight

All this suffering wasn't in vain

expect us!

With your grand and solemn

With your parks,

Expect us Istanbul.

Expect us with your children

sleeping snuggled together

out in the alleys.

Expect us

one day

to walk through your streets

with songs

of victory

on our lips.

Expect us Istanbul.

We shall overcome

this rule of brigands

Expect those days to come.

We deserve you

you deserve us
