Hi,

No large s.markets around old town&Galata tower in walking distance. I'm not sure if its the nearest but you can take metro to Cevahir Shopping center, Migros available on bottom level. Big ones are around residental areas.

Hi gomountaineers,

Istanbul has a large number of supermarkets and hypermarkets like Migros, Carrefour, Real, Tansas, Kipa, etc. But these are mostly in the large malls and at the suburbs. Where land is extremely expensive in central Istanbul, there are only markets. Near Galata Tower one of the markets that you can go is "Guneydogu Pazarı" and here is a link and a map for that: "http://tinyurl.com/kpfp5y".

good luck,

Its the wrong side of the city for you however there is a small Tansas on a side street near the Blue Mosque in the areas between the Mosque and the Tramway.
