Sterling ot Turkish Lira?

Going to Istanbul and have been told it may be better to take sterling rather that lira?? Not sure if this is correct! Also need to know is it better to book a taxi online before we go or just get a taxi outside airport?

Please help.

Take lira, not pounds. Apparently the rates are better here but it may be a bit less hassle to just change money at home before you come.

You can get any taxi outside the airport or pre book a shuttle service which may be cheaper. Or just get the airport bus.

It is up to you if you want to change your money before you go to Istanbul or when you arrive in the city. Don't do it at the airport as the exchange rate isn't good and commission is sometimes charged.

You will get a better exchange rate in Istanbul but it depends how much you are changing how much that is worth the hassle. You will be spending lira as soon as you arrive, so you will certainly need to arrive with some.

Ask your hotel if they do a transfer service (some do a free service one way if you are arriving at Ataturk airport), others offer a competitive rate - and others are really expensive! It depends which airport you are coming into how much it will cost and the best way to do it.

Why not use the ATM machines? They generally give you the best rate on any given day and are all over the city.

turkish lira is the official currency of Turkey. you will need it for cabs, food, shopping etc. if you use anything else, you will probably not be able to get change and then what wouldthe person you gave it to do with it? Not sure where people who tell you these things get their information. you can get lira at cashpoints in sultanahmet square, outside the covered bazaar and throughout Istanbul.
