Airport Transfer

Is is better to get a hotel arranged transfer from the international airport or are taxis honest and straightforward? What is the cost of a taxi to the old city? Thanks!

1. Re: Airport Transfer

Hotels usually bang on the price so not always a good option.A taxi will be approx 45TL.

Make sure you have the name, address and a map of the hotel location to show the driver.Ask the approximate price BEFORE you get in the car.Sit in the front and check the meter. There is no night rate now just a flat day and night rate.Try to have the correct money ready to hand and hold each note up to show the driver as you give him it.

That should assure you don't get conned. They aren't all bad(most are actually pretty decent) but there are a few rogues around too!

The other option is to prebook a shuttle or private transfer. The former is around 7€ and the latter about the same as a taxi...but without the risk of the con :)

Most hotels provide free airport transfers if your stay is 3 nights or longer

Taxi as sari kanarya said is in the range of 40-50 lira.

Havatas offer a shuttle service from airport to Taksim for 10 lira per person

(could get off at Aksaray then catch a metro tram to Sultanahmet)

Catch the M1 metro from the airport for 1.75 lira per person get off at Zeytinburnu to change over to the T1 service 1.75 lira per person and get off at Sultanahmet.

Seems like taxi from Ataturk to Sultanahmet costs ~45TL (~20 Euro). The private transfers seem to in this range too. Between taxis & private transfers, seems like private transfer would be better option. I’d have 9:45AM plane to catch out for Atauturk & I’d go for the private transfer on that one? What you guys think?

We had no problems whatsoever taking the metro and tram to our hotel. We were staying only two stops from Sultanahamet. The cost was only 4TL each. We didn't find it crowded coming or going from the airport. On the day we left at 8:50 A.M. and we made it to the airport, checked in for our flight, and went through passport and security screening by 10:00 A.M. That's an hour and ten minutes from the Hilton Doubletree (Laleli University stop) to the gate...and all for 4 TL!
