joscelynandbev, there are no big, long, fine sand beaches in Istanbul. For a list and description of beaches, have a look at. "mydestination.com/istanbul/things-to-do/22159". I would prefer Gunes beach at Florya which is not even on that list. Have a look at post No. 5 at the following thread: "tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293974-i368-k6614…".

good luck,

joscelynandbev, Really the nicest (sandy!) beaches are in Şile and Ağva, on the Black Sea coast on the Asian side of İstanbul.

Buses nr 139 and 139A fo to Sile. You have to catch this bus from Harem bus station, close to Uskudar ferry terminal. So from the European side of Istanbul, you should use Bosporus ferry from Eminonu or other place to Harem first.

Good luck!

Istanbul really isn't a beach area (despite being surrounded by water!) and it is very much a city break destination. You can get to beaches, but it takes time and unless you are on a long visit, probably not worth it.

You could visit Suada though if you want a lazy day that is a uniquely Istanbul experience. This amazing island in the middle of the Bosphorus has pools, restaurants - and shade! (although you do pay for the privilege!).
