Has the free walking tour concept arrived in Istanbul yet?
If not, are there any paid-for walking tours that people would recommend?
We are spending 10 days in Istanbul this May and these walks look very interesting
Hi Senkizza, that is a very good link you passed on, thank you. If you are interested in DIY and need more suggestions, the RickSteves-Istanbul book has some neighborhood walks. They provide a history of the stops, what not-to-miss, eating establishments near and transportation tips.
Enigma is being much too modest. Besides the Nasantasi Walk he refers to, he has authored a great Istiklal Walk that takes you on a step-by-step down this pedestrian street, and also of Kadikoy. Both of these are destinations you absolutely should be part of your visit.
If he doesn't drop by this thread again, you can use the SEARCH BOX at the top, and type in KADIKOY WALK and then ISTIKLAL WALK. They were invaluable when I visited. You are walking with a local!
Have fun. Be sure to walk to Eminonou and hop aboard a ferry tour. Try to find a time that will allow you to see Istanbul light up at sunset.
I had book marked your Nisanasi walk and had hoped to take it last year but ran out of time. It will be high on our list this year
We did do your Bagdat Street walk in 2012 and really enjoyed that.
Thanks to you and all the D.E. for giving us lots of expedition ideas. These make our stay in Istanbul so enjoyable.
Is the Kadikoy walk to which you refer the wonderful posting by enigma from 2008 that features sites in the area? I have printed that out for our trip, but wonder if there is another post on this subject.
Special thanks to enigma. We were going to take a tour of this area, but feel more equipped to visit on our own with that wonderful post in hand.
