Yes,this one held every evening in Sirkeci, just down the hill from Sultanahmet-

Others, such as Galata Mevlevihanesi tend to be just once a week, usually on Saturdays or Sundays.

mavi, you can see a free whirling dervish show at Cafe Mesale just by the Blue Mosque, if you order something at the cafe. Check the show hours. "tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293974-d2…".

enigma and sarikanarya,

Thank you both for the links! I was planning to attend the performance arranged by Les Arts Turcs (linked below) but from some reviews, it seemed to be rather restrictive (men/women seated separately) and long. I believe it's performed at Nurettin Dergahi mosque. Not sure if my teenage son would enjoy it. Now I have a few more options.

The Whirling Dervish show on Hodjapasha provides a good sample of this form of worship, but I am not positive that it is performed every night. I know it was not performed nightly when we were in Istanbul in November and December. If you plan to visit this venue, I would recommend that you check. In the summer I would imagine that it would be wise to obtain tickets in advance.

The actual ceremony can be long and tedious for people who do not appreciate the concept. I would be surprised if a teen-age boy would enjoy an authentic performance.
