2.5 weeks in Turkey: help with planning

Hi everyone:

I'll be in Turkey from 05/19-06/05. I would like to hear your opinion on my planning.

1st, Istambul: 05/19-05/26: wants to see it throughly

(going to Cappadocia by train)

2nd, Cappadocia: 05/26-05/29

(going to Pamukkale by bus)

3rd, Pamukkale: 05/30-06/01

(going to Dalaman by bus and then renting a car)

4th, the Aegean (more like a retreat in Köyceğiz): 06/01-06/04

(going back to Istambul by plane from Dalaman)

5th, back to Istambul and then home: 06/04-06/05

I would love to hear some suggestions!

Best,

Arthur

A week in Istanbul is perfect to see all the highlights.

Not sure about travelling to Cappadocia by train, I believe it is slow and expensive compared to overnight bus or a very cheap domestic flight. Have you checked flight prices, you might be surprised! Try THY and Pegasus.

Make sure you have at least three full days in Cappadocia.

Similarly you could fly from Capp to Izmir for Ephesus/ Pamukele - see Sun express airline. I'm assuming you plan to visit Ephesus, otherwise you only need one day for Pamukele.

Arthur, Train to Cappadocia is only possible from Ankara. You have to take a bus to Ankara first (5 hours). And afterwards get your tickets (sleeper car is best) at Ankara train station and board Dogu Express (Ankara- Kars). "http://www.seat61.com/Turkey.htm#.UyRMbD9_t8A". Instead you can also fly from Istanbul or take a bus to Cappadocia (Nevsehir or Kayseri). For flight schedules and fares you can use "www.aerobilet.com", but make your bookings using the airlines own website.

When you are at the Med coast you should visit Marmaris, Fethiye, and Kas besides Koycegiz.

I would skip Pamukkale and rather fly to Sanliurfa (Urfa), fantastic city with Göbekli Tepe and Harran outside. Rent a car to see these places and then drive to Kahta, find a hotel arranging trips to Nemrut Dagi (mountain), nothing in Turkey compares with Nemrut mountain. Guaranteed!
