Is it safe to travel to Istanbul currently with the latest issues in Iraq?

CRJ652014, yes, it is very safe. Iraq is far away and is a different country and there are tens of thousands of visitors in Istanbul now. Good season.

My husband and I will be in istanbul 4pm fri. 10/17/2014 to 11pm sat. 10/18/2014. Looking at maps of the city it looks very doable to walk and/or take local transportation. Do you suggest this or being a tour? Also what are the main must see sites that may not be on general site list.

You can walk or use the every efficient public transport system of Istanbul, here is the metrobus & rail map


Don't let the map trick you as distances may appear close however some parts of the city are steep and it is a densely populated mega city.

You can do it on your own without the need for a tour.

The main must see places are all listed on this site as well as many others.
