Nevsehir/Kayseri to Istanbul via train or plane

Heard the new train express is operating from Ankara to Istanbul. Thinking of bus or train from Nevsehir or Kayseri to Ankara and hop on express train to istanbul to see countryside. Any suggestions if this is advisable and how long each segment would take via bus and train. Also, how often does the train or bus run. Website showing hours? Researched the plane would take @ 1 1/2 hrs, the quickest. Just thought it would be fun on the new express train....cost for train and bus? Thank you in advance....

marinpartyof4, you have heard correct.

Take the bus from Göreme or Nevşehir (more frequent buses) to Ankara which will take 3.5 hours & cost 35 lira. From Ankara's AŞTİ otogar (bus terminal) go downstairs to take the metro to Kizilay, changeover then take the metro to Ulus. Once you resurface walk straight down Cumhuriyet road for less than 10 minutes to make your way to the gar (train station), here is the route http://goo.gl/maps/uidEY

Travelling from the otogar to gar will take around 40 minutes.

Take the YHT (high speed train) from Ankara to Istanbul which will take 3.5 hours & cost 35-100 lira pending class chosen. Here are the daily high speed train departure times from Ankara to Istanbul:

Ankara D:06.00 - İstanbul(Pendik) A:09.40

Ankara D:08.50 - İstanbul(Pendik) A:12.34

Ankara D:11.45 - İstanbul(Pendik) A:15.39

Ankara D:14.40 - İstanbul(Pendik) A:18.22

Ankara D:17.40 - İstanbul(Pendik) A:21.24

Ankara D:19.00 - İstanbul(Pendik) A:22.40

The new high speed train is sure fun & if you have the time will highly recommend it.

Watching the spedometer on displayed on the monitor in the carriage showing 250km/h on the screen is a surreal experience.

Overall flight time may be 1.5 hours however you get to the airport 2 hours before the flight, then take another hour to get to the airport, will take you another 1.5 hours to get from Cappadocia to Kayseri airport and will also take another hour to get from the destination airport to the city centre, so when you factor all those in what looks like a 1.5 flight balloons out to a 6 hour plus journey and isn't so short afterall.

The bus to Ankara takes 4½-5 hours depending on traffic, cost 40TL and then c.30 minutes to get from the otogar to the train station via 2 different subway lines. Then 3 hours by train to Istanbul cost 75TL.

There are very regular buses from Nevşehir and /or Göreme to Ankara with Metr Turizm,Süha Turizm and Nevşehirliler Seyahat all of whom have English menu's on their web sites so you can check up which would work best for you.

Here are the HS train times-

By coincidence I've just been reading this-

hurriyetdailynews.com/…

Does anyone believe a politican who says there is no problem?

Actually it is only a 1 hour check in for domestic flights not 2 hours.Göreme to Kayseri takes 70 minute and to Nevşehir 40 minutes both along scenic routes.

Depending on the time of day you arrive it will take roughly the same time to get from Pendik to your city centre hotel as from either airport.

The YHT schedule & fare information I posted is direct from the TCDD (Turkish railways) website.

3rd party websites such as some man in a seat with a number above often have outdated information which you need to be weary of.

The times & fares on that website are from 26/7 which has been close to 2 weeks.

The TCDD website will aways have upto date information posted on it whom are the operators themselves.

Indeed it is a 1 hour checkin time for domestic flights but most foreign travellers are conditioned to 2 hours due to lifelong travel habits.
