Exploring the big city. ideas please!

We would like to know what to see in Istanbul outside the Sultanahmet district

..we love that district and are staying there again..we have spent 4 nights there before as wel, l on a previous visit a few years ago, but didn't really make it to anywhere else as we so enjoyed where we were)

we will have 3 nights then another 3nights 10 days later, arriving in a couple of weeks

A river cruise? other districts?

thanks fellow trip advisor people :)

Take the tram from Sultanahmet to Kabatas and then funicular to Taksim.

Once there eat some wet burgers at the top end of Istiklal rd and then slowly start making your way down navigating your way through the arcades, passages & little streets off of it before making your way down to Galata where you can then visit Galara tower.

Afterwards walk down to Karakoy to sample some nice baklava from Karakoy Gulluoglu.

Then why not treat your self to a pampering hamam experience at Kilic Ali Pasa which is a few minute walk http://kilicalipasahamami.com/

Hop on the tram and go to Kabatas. Then take the 25E bus to visit Ortakoy, Arnavutkoy, Bebek and Rumeli Fortress. The 25E bus goes along the coast all the way to Sariyer and back.

After the fortress hop back on the bus to go to Emirgan to visit Sabanci museum and have some su muhallebi (water pudding) and other delicious Turkish food from Sutis Emirgan.

Take the national palaces Pereme hop on/hop off ferry to visit some of the less visited palaces such as Beylerbeyi & Kucuksu on the Asian side

pereme.com.tr/en_hop-on-hop-off-stopping-by-…

Ferry departs from Kabatas and also stops over Emirgan & Besiktas on its way back to Kabatas.

Take the ferry or Marmaray (underground) metro from Eminonu/Sirkeci to Uskudar to visit the many beautiful mosques (Mihrimah sultan, Valide sultan, Yeni Valide, Cinili, Sakirin etc) as well as the beautul Maidens tower.

Afterwards make your way to Kuzguncuk by walking or bus to visit the old Christian/Jewish neighbourhood.

Then make your way to Kadikoy to have a bite at Ciya Sofrasi and some delicious sweets from Baylan patisserie (Kup griye is a must).

Back on the Asian side take the Goldern horn ferry to Eyup to visit the mosque then take the cable car or walk up through the cemetery to sip some coffee whilst enjoying a nice view at Pierre Loto cafe.

Make your way back down and take the 55EB EYÜP - BEYAZIT bus to Edirnekapi to visit the great Panorama1453 museum which depicts the conquest of Istanbul.

From there follow the old city walls & make your way to Chora museum and a little further walk to Fethiye mosque (old Pammakaristos church). Then walk to Yavuz Sultan Selim camii & Fatih mosque.

After that take the bus to Eminonu.

These are only but a few things you can do whilst in Istanbul over 3 days & more.

I wrote back on the Asian side above, that was meant to be European side.

Also correct spelling should be Pierre Loti cafe.

On our second visit to Istanbul this past May, we particularly enjoyed our visit to the Military Museum about a 15-minute walk north of Taksim Square to hear the mehter (military) band play at 3 PM. This performance was very special in both sound and costume, and we absolutely loved it. We also enjoyed our visit to the Istanbul Modern (art) Museum which is on the street just outside the cruise port. A very good collection displayed with great lighting and good label copy.

Enjoy!
