DIY Pumakkale from Selcuk

I want to do this site visit and would like to know if DIY via bus is better than booking a group tour. I am staying at hotel Bella in Selcuk from 5/27 -5/30/13.

Thanks for any input.

Or train from Selcuk to Denizli. Here's the timetable - tcdd.gov.tr/Upload/…basmanesokeaydin.htm

And then dolmus out to Pamukkale. Best to stay the night there after watching the sun set on the travertines. Plenty of nice hotels there - tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotels-g297992-Pamukkale-H…

Also frequent buses from Selcuk to Aydin and then change for a bus to Denizli and the same back to Selcuk. Not many buses direct from Selcuk, I think. Ask at the otogar (bus station) in the centre of Selcuk, about 200 metres south of the Bella on the main road through town. Bus companies...

If you're thinking of a day trip, be aware that the journey by fast car is nearly 3 hours each way. Personally, I would rent a car in Selcuk and drive to Pamukkale, staying one night there. The following day I would come back via Aphrodisias which is more difficult to visit without your own vehicle.

If you want to do it in one day, without driving, it might be best to ask Bella Hotel about joining a small tour group. There are three travel agencies in town that deal with this sort of thing.
