The town Selçuk has a cedilla under the c, which gives the "ch" sound.

Selcuk, without the cedilla would be pronounced "SelJuk" in Turkish.

I've lived in SELÇUK for some years and I'm still uncertain about the origin of the name.

It's derived from AYASOLUK (= Aya Soluk = Hagias Theosolog = Saint John the Evangelist)
