Pope in May

It was announced today that Pope Benedict XVI will be visiting Israel in May of this year.

It's understood that the Pope will be escorted around the country but the exact destinations have not yet been revealed.

One can only think that his itinerary will include Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, and parts of the Galilee.

Logostically, this can be a nightmare for tourists since security would be at a maximum. When then-president Bush visited last spring I was there and saw what extreme security measures for visiting VIP's can do. For starters, those that had reservations for the King David had their reservations nullified for Bush's use.

Let's use this thread to post useful information for travellers as this trip by the Pope may cause some plans to change.

Nowadays, you get sparkling new carriages for a light railway that will only be functional in a couple of years, for municipal elections. And since the Pope most probably won't use the light railway, you get the roads for his visit. In the end, you will have both: The roads and the railway.

I think they are keeping the light railway for the archangels' visit.

You will see that by the time the light railway is done, the carriages won't fit. They could give them to TEl Aviv, for our light railway. As the Tel Aviv railway won't ever come to life the fitting won't be a problem. We could change the name to HELEM.

As usual, Shoshi, your wisdom is worth its weight in gold.
