Rental Car in Israel Avis or Others?

ANY TA's recently rented a car in Israel?

I would like to know which companies you used and which website you booked from (if other than the companies website). Also what you like or didn't like about the company, car etc.

I agree. While I prefer Eldan, I've had good experience with Avis. I've had terrible experience with Budget Israel, and mediocre with Hertz.

I used Eldan several years in a row. They were always the cheapest by far. However, there were always little problems with the cars that they corrected but cost me time and were very annoying. In addition their cars were always dirty. I will probably use them again if they are the cheapest next time.

As I've said many times. I am in Israel 40 % of the time. During that time I do 3-4 separate rentals . The past 10 or so years these rentals have been with Eldan. Over all those rentals I've once received a vehicle that had a strange smell that didn't air out and I changed the car. I never had any mechanical problems. Some ( not all) of the cars have had a few dents or dings. Renters can't have it both ways--we don't want to pay for every ding that gets put in the car while we have it--but to then say they should bang them all out!!!

Referring to Eldan. I did have these specific issues in two separate occasions about a year apart. Last year the steering did not work properly and the car was shaking while driving over 30 km/h. The year before one of the doors could not be opened. On both occasions I did not see the problem until I drove off the lot. Therefore I was forced to waste time returning and exchaging the car which they did of course. In addition many Israelies smoke in the rental cars and ours where not cleaned with sometimes cigarette full ashtrays. The person who said they are in Israel alot you probably already have a frequent renter relationship with whatever branch you use so it's not the same as a tourist coming in. I also mentioned that I would perhaps give them another chance if price was a factor for me next time I go.

I've rented from Hertz, Avis, Thrifty (albas or something ) Eldan.

No issues with Hertz- but not price competitive.

Avis I had issues with because they claimed damaged, but i know it was there before- I was young and not aware of little things like checking your car beforehand with the car attendant - I ended up paying $100 for "repairs"... Even so everyone says they are great, but I find them more expensive...

Thrifty- No issues..one time had a $8 a day rental for 2 weeks.(+$12 for insurance)...but I had to the car attendant mark up spots on the car form that I felt he left out...so be careful...

Eldan- sometimes they can be price competitive and sometimes not. The main problem is waiting for you car.. it can take awhile.

I have never rented from Budget.

And even though I have CDW insurance coverage on my cc, they still always insist on charging it anyways..I had my cc company recently call up Budget and Hertz, and Avis and they all said they had to charge the insurance..kind've frustrating...

Stay away from AVIS as much as you can

Eldan and Tamir are my favorite ones

For websites I usually use Eldan as the prices are very clear. I stay away from american websites as the additional charges such as mandatory insurance are not always clear. (esp the type of car, such as full or intermediate). I started lately utilizing Noach car rental via email, and have been very happy. He is a travel agent that has deals with all the major rental companies in Israel!

I have rented from Eldan several times.

Never had a problem with the car. A few dings and dents but car was always clean.

Very competitive pricing.

I am renting again from them in August.

This would be Joseph M's third add on Noach in one day -- a new "member" of Trip Advisor whose first three posts were all to sing the praises of a rental car agency.
