Looking for historical tour of Israel

My husband and I would like to visit Israel in the spring or fall this year. We'd like to go on a tour -- no less than 10 days, no more than two weeks. We're interested in history and are not interested in a tour that focuses on one religion. We want to see the important religious sites and have some of the scheduling headaches managed, but we'll also need some free time.

Can anyone recommend a good tour company?

Thanks so much!

I don't know whether this might suit you - it is very focused on history in the Middle East , and my suggestion would be for you to stay on after the tour in Jerusalem to enjoy free time there, to shop in the Old City, and to look around other places of interest at your own pace. It does take you to Jordan as well as Israel.

If that is too heavily focused on history then perhaps just a general tour of Israel would be better. Almost all tours will take in major historical sites there.

Gate 1 Tours might be a good fit for you since they often have free time worked into their itineraries gate1travel.com/israel-travel/israel-escorte…

You could also look at Tourplan Israel www.tourplanisrael.com/…

I have worked with this company and they run outstanding tours (though more Jewish oriented) daattravel.com/israel-tours/13-day-exploring…

Plus the one Heather gave you the link for. That tour is archeology based...all history, all the time but with outstanding guides and the chance to meet with archeologists at the different sites.

I just returned from a fantastic tour of Israel. The tour is 5 Senses Tour of Israel and the tour leader is Wendy Yaniv. This was one of the most amazing tours I have ever been on. We saw so much of Israel and every day was different from the last. We covered most of Israel and still had time to ourselves. Wendy has designed a wonderful itinerary, and Harrison, our tour guide, was very knowledgable about everything in Israel. They were the most up-beat tour leader and tour guide we could have asked for. I would be glad to answer any questions you might have about this tour and/or point you in the right direction, and would highly recommend it. I do know she has another tour in March of 2014. I should also add that this is a multi-denominational tour, so you get well rounded information and lots of historical information.

Cindy, are all the tours there for ladies only or are men included on some of them?

The one in March is open to everyone; the October one is women only. Again, one of the best tours I've ever been on. I can give you any info I have from the trip I just returned ftom, but she adds new things each time to the standards that we all want to see. And Harrison, the local guide, is very knowledgeable.
