Itinerary for 10 day trip in Israel and other travel tips?

Hi everyone, I've been reading the various tips and seems like there is a really active Israel travel group. We're planning our end of April, 9 day trip to Israel. We're very excited about visting this beautiful country, and so it would be great if we can tap into your collective knowledge !

This is our proposed itinerary:

20 - 21 April:Tel Aviv

22 April: Drive to Haifa, stopping at Caesarea

23 April: Drive from Haifa to Tiberias, stopping at various sites in Gailee

24 April: Drive to Jerusalem (stopping at Beit She'an)

25 April: Jerusalem

26 April: Jerusalem

27 April: Ramallah /Nablus

28 April: Day trip to Dead Sea OR overnight and then another day in Ramallah/Nablus?

29 April: Fly home in the evening

We have a couple of questions:

1. Does the above itinerary look realistic and do-able?

2. We're keen to see a bit of the West Bank. Does anyone recommend any tours that will allow an overnight stay in either Ramallah or Nablus?

3. The 21st of April is the last day of Passover. Should we try to drive up to Haifa that day or should we stay in Tel Aviv?

4. If there is one thing we can skip, what would that be? eg. Sites around Galilee?

5. We propose to do a one-way car hire from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Given it is Passover and general security conditions, will there be any problems driving? We're also thinking of going down Route 90 along the Jordan River.

6. We're both keen to stay in rural areas and to experience Israeli food. Any other tips in addition to what was suggested on this post? tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g293977-i1733-k7…

Thank you everyone in advance.

Hello there,

Refer to what I wrote below:

Day 01 (21 April): Arrival. Overnight in Tel Aviv.

Day 02 (22 April): Visit Old Jaffa, caesarea Maritima, Haifa and Akko. Overnight in Nazareth or Tiberias.

Day 03 (23 April): Visist Sea of Galilee. Overnight in Nazareth or Tiberias.

Day 04 (24 April): Visit Mount Tabor, Nazareth, Cana. Overnight in Nazareth or Tiberias.

Day 05 (25 April): Visit Beit She'an, Jericho, Dead Sea. Overnight in Bethlehem or Jerusalem.

Day 06 (26 April): Visit Bethlehem. Overnight in Bethlehem or Jerusalem.

Day 07 (27 April): Visit Jerusalem. Overnight in Bethlehem or Jerusalem.

Day 08 (28 April): One Day Tour (Done by the below).

Day 09 (29 April): Departure

As for your questions, my comments are as follow:

1) It's realistic and doable but made some amdnedments.

2) See below.

3) Stay in Tel Aviv.

4) Advise your preference or sites of interests to reply accordingly.

5) You will be taking Route 90 in day five.

6) Israeli food or Palestinian food? If you're looking for real middle eastern food, then it's the Palestinian.

If you want to see more of Palestine, I can suggest the following two companies:

a) Alternative Tourism Group: www.atg.ps

b) Green Olive Torus: www.toursinenglish.com

To see even more, stay in Bethlehem.

April 21st places will be closing early since it is the eve of the last day of Pesach so keep this in mind. The following day is a public holiday where there is public transportation, but many sites are open in Tel Aviv, but not necessarily shops.

22 April I suggest driving to Akko visiting Caesarea and Haifa on the way

23 April: this day is okay.

24 April: Drive to Jerusalem (stopping at Beit She'an) Also stop at Yardenit or Kasr al-Yehud

25 April: Jerusalem

26 April: Ramallah/Nablus -- are you taking a tour or going by public transportation? You can't drive there.

27 April: Jerusalem

28 April: Day trip to Dead Sea

29 April: spend this day catching up on Jerusalem or move your entire itinerary one day forward adding a day in the Galilee.

1. Does the above itinerary look realistic and do-able? Yes, except for Ramallah and Nablus unless you have booked a guided tour of these cities.

2. We're keen to see a bit of the West Bank. You can visit Bethlehem for half a day during your time in Jerusalem.

3. The 21st of April is the last day of Passover. Should we try to drive up to Haifa that day or should we stay in Tel Aviv? You will need to get the car the previous day, so it's up to you.

4. If there is one thing we can skip, what would that be? Ramallah and Nablus

5. You can only rent a car during weekdays (not on Shabbat or the holiday itself -- agencies close early on the eve of the holiday around 1 p.m. so keep this in mind). Road 90 is perfectly safe for driving during daylight hours. As there are no streetlights it is not recommended to travel there at night. You can drive a rental car it's entire length, as the insurance is valid in this area.

6. If you are not on the coastal area or Jerusalem you will be in the rural area. Check out the www.zimmeril.com site for ideas for B&B in outlaying areas.

I think your original plan looks pretty good. I wouldn't stay in Tiberias but in one of the rural settings or small towns in the region. Traffic in and out of Tiberias is a pain and there aren't a lot of sites in the town to see.

For your stay in Jerusalem, stay overnight in Jerusalem. You don't need to be traveling back and forth between the 2 cities. There are so many activities and options for night life in Jerusalem. There are hotels in every budget located in convenient locations.

In addition to the 2 companies mentioned above (both having pretty obvious agendas), the Abraham Hostel also offers a tour to Hebron which offers both Israel and Palestinian guides working together and giving different points of view. This is a rare opportunity. http://abrahamtours.com/tours/hebron-tour/ They also offer day tours to other places in the West Bank such as Bethlehem and Jericho in one day abrahamtours.com/tours/…

or you can take all 3 of their West Bank tours on consecutive days (with overnights in Jerusalem) abrahamtours.com/tours/…
