Golan Heights or Haifa

Could some one please advise if it would be better to base ourselves in Haifa and travel to Golan Heights (hiring a car); or have a night or two in Haifa and a night or two in Golan Heights? Do we need more time in either/both places? CW.

spence3787 - if everybody read these recommendations and listen to the press we won't have any tourists. The fact is that we have almost 4 million people/year, so it is not that scary. In Israel crime rate is low too, how is the crime rate where you come from?

There are direct buses from Haifa to Jerusalem, which will be quicker than taking the train to Tel Aviv and then a bus from there.

Two routes: 940 from the bus terminal at Hof Hacarmel (next to Hof Hacarmel railway station in the southern part of Haifa), and 960 from the bus terminal at Lev Hamifratz (next to Lev Hamifratz railway station in northeast Haifa). If you are at Hof Hacarmel, don't take the 947, even if it's leaving before the 940 - the 947 is a long slow route stopping at every tree and watering hole on the way.

Thanks for great feedback - all very helpful with our planning. Just another question - We wish to catch a train from Tel Aviv to Haifa on Saturday 25 October and as it is Shabbat, will public transport be working?

On Saturday there are no trains (only late evening).. You only option is by shared taxi (sherut) starting from Tel-Aviv CBS

You can take a bus once Shabbat is out, or as mentioned above a sherut from Haifa any time over the course of the day.
