I would still allow three hours. We took less this time but some people are still coming in this forum saying they needed all the three hours. It's better to sit and wait than miss the plane. On previous occasions we have needed every minute of those three hours,

I would suggest you do the VAT rebate before anything else. We checked our luggage in first and then couldn't get the rebate on the suitcase we had bought because they couldn't physically see it. There are queues at the VAT rebate place too so you need to allow for a wait there also.

The rule is 3 hours due to airport security, unless you are being told otherwise by your airline (some airlines allow 2.5 hours if you do an internet check-in). As advised by Heather, allow extra time for VAT refund and car return, if applicable.

Information about VAT: tripadvisor.co.uk/…54111893

Recently someone didn't get the money back because his name wasn't on the receipt. So check, that all requested information is on the form.

If the VAT rebate is items that are going in your checked luggage than I would leave an extra 30 minutes to go on that line. (before checking in, as Heather says) A few years ago I did the VAT line in about 5 minutes. I would say 5-10 minutes is the norm. HOWEVER, right after I finished an entire tour group --30 people or so, en mass got on the line. Their native language was NOT one that the people working the VAT refund kiosk would likely speak so the tour guide, escort or something, was standing there translating for each person. Anyone stuck behind this group would have been on line more than 30 minutes. AND you never know!
