travelling from Bethlehem to Jerusalem

I am a lady who is travelling from Ben Gorion airport in Tel Aviv need to be at the airport at 5 am 24/12/13. I will be leaving the rest of the group I am travelling with in Bethlehem.

When is the latest public bus from Bethlehem to Jerusalem?

Can anybody recommend a taxi firm, as I was told that no taxi can go from Bethlehem to Jerusalem and that I will have to order a taxi from east Jerusalem. How much should I expect to pay for a taxi from Bethlehem to Jerusalem or from Bethlehem to airport? If I am not going to spend night of 23rd in Jerusalem, how much time should I allow for the trip?

thanks a lot

Normally I would say that the last #21 bus back to the bus station opposite Damascus Gate (between Nablus Road and Salah Ed-din street) in East Jerusalem would be at about 6.30pm (winter timetable) – 7.3NIS. However being Christmas-time there may be later buses. The visitors’ information centre will be able to help you.

Note that the #21 leaves from the Beit Jala side of the road ay Bab ez-Zqaq crossroads in Bethlehem.

Alternatively you could cross to Jerusalem through the Gilo 300 checkpoint and catch the #24 bus to Jerusalem - 5.5NIS.

Personally, if I was catching an early flight from BG (presumably yours is at 8am) I would book into an inexpensive hotel in East Jerusalem, eg.

and book (24 hours in advance) a Nesher sherut to collect me at 4.30am.

AS it gets closer to Christmas the number of visitors coming between Bethlehem and Jerusalem greatly increases. There is no guarantee of any schedule. I would very very strongly suggest you follow the advice of Thackeray and spend your last night in Jerusalem.
