Living in Eilat

I will be living in Eilat for 5 months and was wondering if any one had suggestions on the best way to get to Tel Aviv or Jerusalem without a car. Thanks!

There is direct bus service from Eilat to both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, by the Egged bus company.

You need to reserve a seat in advance for this bus. You can take care of that a few days ahead of your intended travel.

You can also fly to Tel Aviv either to Sde Dov Airport which is IN Tel Aviv or to Ben Gurion I nternational Airport which is located about the middle of the way between Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. There are 3 airlines operating from and to Eilat: Arkia, Israir and ElAl. Flying time - about 1 hour. The competition between the ailines caused the fares to be more reasonable.

How often will you be needing to travel there? Perhaps it may be worthwhile to purchase a small inexpensive used car while you are there?

You would also be able to explore other areas of Israel that are more difficult to access with public transit.

While Dr. Z's suggestion might at first appear to be good the words inexpensive and car are never used in the same sentence in Israel. Cars are 3-4 times the price here than they are in the US. ( that is why rentals are so much higher here than in the US)

The purchase price of a used motorcycle may be ostensible low, but insurance is sky high - again, a luxury in Israel.

Bike--now while inexpensive..... BUT think of the leg muscles one could develop. ( not to mention other body parts that would be in shape!)

Bikes are very popular in Israel, so why not? It also depends if the 5 months include July-August. Hot!!!
