Cheap eats in Eilat?

In Israel for a week now, I knew food would not be cheap but didn't budget the expense at local places like food court malls, fast food places and other restaurants

hotel meals are similarly priced as to other hotels around the world, but when looking at eating out for the next week in Eilat and onward to the Golan, want to be prepared.

Any recommendations for restaurants with self serve service, good prices, good food

The only self service restaurant is the falafal/shawarma bars where you get a pita bread with either in it and you fill it up with salads. There is one at the Tourist Center opposite the Sea Mall called The Ayuni Jaffa Shawarma.

for those coming to Eilat, here is my report

Food is expensive, most hotels include breakfast.

diinner, some hotels include dinner depending on your meal plan

non-Friday night hotel buffets run from 100nis to 170nis adult, and 50nis-100nis for kids

1-1.5 liter waters in shops on the beach stores range from 9nis-14nis

6-1.5 liter packs in big supermarkets (nothing near the beach), are 13nis-19nis

Mcdonalds 10pc chicken nuggets is 50nis, very expensive, but then hey have these specials, not sure if its weekly special or the whole summer, and varies from store to store

vanilla ice cream cone 2nis-4nis, one mcdonalds had 8oz water at 2nis

most restaurants and stores have 8z waters at 6nis-8nis

pizza near the hotels range from 70-80nis w/1 litir soda at beach restaurants and in the mall

found "monte carlo" pizza flyers with 2 pizza;s and 1.6liter soda at 95nis delivered, and 10 pizza's for 400nis delivered to the hotel

1 pizza is enough for 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 kids

yes, fallafal and schwarma stands range from 24-34nis, several on beach area

If you are trying to save money, eating at McDonalds or any other international chain is not the way to go. I couldn't believe the costs. Eat at local places, smaller on the street stands are often a great deal. If there is a crowd, the food will be fresh and good.

You can also eat in any of the many cafes and light restaurants around, and simply choose cheaper dishes. Israeli portions are huge. For example, three people could order one salad and one pasta dish, coming to under $ 25, and share them. Almost anywhere will allow this; cover charges are fairly rare.

Another tip: by law, Israeli restaurants must provide free tap water. Take advantage of this and avoid ordering soft drinks with you meal. You can buy a bottle of soda to keep in your hotel fridge, or even buy small bottles of drink from kiosks, for much less than you'll pay in the restaurant.

... it suddenly occurred to me that the OP is asking about Eilat. No-one drinks the tap water in Eilat because it is desalinated and doesn't taste good, so that tip won't work there (though it does apply in most of the rest of Israel).
