Suggestions for restaurants in Jerusalem

My wife and I will be traveling to Israel in October and will be spending our first six nights in Jerusalem near Independence Park. I would appreciate suggestions for nearby restaurants for dinner.

We are not "5-star" diners - just middle class Americans looking to experience good local food in nice clean places where we can sit and enjoy a good meal. We enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail with dinner.

I would appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks

Marvad Haksamim on Emek Refaim. Euclyptus near Jaffa Gate(not walking distance).

* Chakra 41 King George St. (fairly expensive, for a special meal)

* Any of the restaurants on Nachalat Shiva. Try Rachmo for a no-frills but very tasty Israeli dining experience.

* Tmol Shilshom - 5 Salomon St. in Nachalat Shiva. Bohemian bookstore/cafe with many English speakers and nice food.

* Spagetim, Hillel St. (pasta and other things)

* In the Old City - Versavee just inside Jaffa Gate, French-influenced menu and good range of alcoholic drinks.

* .... and many more.

Focaccia Restaurant is very nice without breaking the bank. One of the trendy places to go.

I wonder if Focaccia would be a good place for our Jerusalem Trip Advisor dinner. Kosher?

I second the recommendation of Tmol Shilshom and Eucalyptus; the latter is more expensive.

Focaccia is not kosher.

Eucalyptus is a nice restaurant but it is one of the most expensive in Jerusalem.

There is also Beit Ticho which is a lovely dairy restaurant with a garden. Food is consistently good.

Lovely new Foccacia Bar on Emek Refaim where Caffit was. Kosher and definitely recommended. Great business lunches for 69 shekels.

Machneyuda is really worth a visit. I would advise you give them a call to book in advance though.

If you like a glass of wine or cocktails I would consider going to the King David and sit out on their patio. The wine list, drinks and bar snacks are not costly at all and the ambience is wonderful.

Likewise the bar at the Mamilla hotel is a great position.
