Caesarea or Bei't Shean?

On January 2nd, we will embark on a road trip from Tel Aviv and spending the night in Nazareth. We are trying to determine which archaeological sight would be recommended?

Caesarea or Bei't Shean?

Both are highly recommended here in Trip Advisor. Any ideas?

Our roadtrip itinerary

Depart TLV at 10am

Drive to either Caesarea or Bei't Shean

Sea of Galilee (Capernaum)

Overnight at Nazareth

Thank you.

If you have to choose either one or the other, go to Caesarea.

Considering your route then go to Caesarea as Beit Shean is out of your way and will add unnecessary driving. Both are wonderful and you will enjoy your visit to Caesarea - leave Beit Shean for next time.

Caesarea is on you way north, thus use the opportunity to visit there. Sea of Galilee is east of Nazareth, thus it looks like additional circle. Can you go to Capernaum on the following morning? If yes, I suggest to visit the Bahai Gardens and shrine on the way from Caesarea to Nazareth

Besides that Beit Shean is out of the way uou don't have time to get there. I would visit Capernaum the following morning as you will not get there early enough to actually see the site in sunlight(check opening hours). You must calculate driving times: 1 hour to Ceasarea, 2.5 hour visit including lunch, 1.5 drive to Capernaum, 1 hour visit at Capernaum, 1 hour drive to Nazareth.

Unfortunately we need to leave early the next morning for Masada so we either do capernaum on the same day or remove it from our itinerary altogether.

If you can't do Capernaum on the following day, it would still be worth it to get there, even for a short visit after visiting Ceasarea. You just need to keep an eye on the time but it is doable if you time it right. Chana gave good guidelines for timing. You might cut back on the time at Ceasarea to get to Capernaum a half an hour earlier. There are lunch places right inside the park at Ceasarea and it is wonderful to have lunch there.
