Of course it is. Israel has water of the highest standard, conforming to US and European standards at their highest level. Since you must drink alot of water here especially in the dry months (May-November) this will be a money saver. BTW, the bottled water comes from springs in Israel that are fed into the water system.

Absolutely safe, as the article mbgg posted convincingly proves.

In some parts of Israel, most people don't drink tap water because it doesn't taste good (Eilat and the Arava are one example).

If you have a tendency to get stomach problems when you travel, you may prefer to use bottled water and/or to ease yourself slowly into drinking tap water during your first few days in Israel. Not because it's bad, but because it's different and some people react to that.

On our first tour we were advised to go for bottled water except at the hotels we stayed in because different minerals in the water can cause stomach problems for some people. But as the others have stated it isn't necessary for most people in most areas. Err on the side of caution if you are not sure... It's better to pay a bit more for bottled water than get a stomach upset after being in a place you had a query in your mind over.

Safe, yes, surely. But my personal rule when I travel anywhere distant, even to California, is to limit my consumption of tap water for the first day. I figure the small amounts I get from brushing teeth, ice cubes, etc, will allow my digestive system to become accustomed to the new mix of constituents in the water.

Not sure how necessary this is but it works for me.

I drink filtered or bottled water most of the time, just because I don't like the taste of the chlorine in the tap water. In most of the southern areas, the tap water is desalinated and pretty good. The only place you can't drink the tap water is around the Dead Sea - there are warning signs and bottled or filtered water is provided without cost. If you don't see it, just ask for it.
