12:30am arrival.....anything to do? Options?

We have an early (12:30am) arrival into Tel Aviv and are looking for suggestions as this is our first time to Israel. We have a group of travelers coming in at 4:00pm who will then proceed to Jerusalem.

We can stick around in Tel Aviv until they arrive and catch a (pre-arranged) shuttle....or meet them in Jerusalem.

Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I think your best option would be to try to reserve an additional night at the place you will all be staying the next night. Granted you won't get a full night's sleep but you will have a chance to get a few hours rest, then a good breakfast so that you'll be able to enjoy the better part of a day in Jerusalem.

You can get to Jerusalem easily from the airport - at any time of the day or night. There is a shared taxi - called sherut that operates from the airport. The fare is 60 NIS per person and it will take you to almost any location in Jerusalem.

If you choose to do this, make sure you let the hotel know that you will be arriving very late so that they don't give your room away as a no show.

It should also be noted that you are arriving at Tel Aviv AIRPORT, not the city of Tel Aviv. So hanging around would be sitting around and wasting a day at the airport. The airport is located on the road between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. It is 20-35 minutes to Tel Aviv and 35-45 minutes to Jerusalem . At the hour you are coming in--it will be short and fast. Follow Oreets instructions and just go to Jerusalem and check into your hotel. The room WILL be ready in the middle of the night--make a late breakfast ( ask how late they serve breakfast) and get a head's up on everyone else.

Take Oreets advice. Book the hotel ASAP, as hotels fill quickly.

After breakfast in your hotel, you can always catch a quick nap or see something that you want to see but would not interest the late arrivals. You will love those Israeli hotel breakfasts!

Thank you (all) for your advice. We ended up getting a hotel in Tel Aviv to get caught up on some much needed sleep. After checking out in the morning, we caught a taxi and headed to the beach for several hours before meeting our group.

Thanks again....happy travels!

Hello! :)

I am having the same "late arrival" problem as Gary (00:20am), just I need to go to Tel-Aviv instead of Jerusalem. Train is not a possibility as they don't start until 5:16, so I have thought the best for us will be to take a sherut. Is this for Tel-Aviv the same fare/way to take them? do we need to wait until the taxi is full, or it will bring the two of us to our destination for the same 60NIS/person?

thanks a lot!

There is no sherut service from the airport to Tel Aviv - you will have to take a regular taxi.

Just go out of the terminal and directly to the official taxi stand. Do not be tempted by anyone who approaches you inside the terminal.

The train runs all night between the airport and Tel Aviv at 7 minutes before the hour. However, from the train you will need a taxi, so I would suggest just taking a taxi from the airport. Much more convenient with one mode of transportation.

The sherut to Jerusalem costs 60 shekels/pp, 120 for 2. The taxi to Tel Aviv is about 150 shekels per taxi. Not such a big difference in costs but much better for comfort.
