Transportation from Ben Gurion Airport to Tel Aviv and Back

I plan to travel in June to Tel Aviv and was wondering what the taxi rates were from the airport coming in at 5:30 p.m. and go back to the airport at 9:00 p.m. later in the trip. Are there day rates and night rates? Are there shuttles? Thanks for your help

The taxi from the airport to Tel Aviv costs about 150 NIS during the day. You can get a cheaper rate back to the airport - about 100 NIS - by calling Hadar Taxis at 03-971-1103. They have the airport franchise and are very reliable. Book a day in advance.

The day rate is 152 NIS plus charge for luggage and if you are over 2 people. You only need to reserve the Hadar Taxi--for return, not for the trip FROM the airport!

A similar question - we are staying at the David InterContinental in Tel Aviv and also need to get to and from the airport. Does this hotel provide any shuttle service and/or will they arrange transportation for us?

Why don't you ask the hotel ??

But I can guess that any service they provide will be far more expensive than a regular taxi. The taxis are well organized and regulated and the ride is less than 30 minutes.

LKG54,

Most probably the hotel will call a taxi for you. You should, of course, ask for that in advance.

Don't go with anyone who enters the airport touting for taxi customers. You will be ripped off.

You should go to the taxi stand immediately outside the arrivals hall, where an official taxi dispatcher will put you into an official taxi at the official rate. There is a small extra charge for more than two people, and for luggage. And taxi drivers are not tipped in Israel.

There is no shuttle or shared taxi from the airport to Tel Aviv.

There are also no shuttles from Tel Aviv hotels to the airport - just as the doorman at your hotel to get you a taxi when you need one. No problem at all getting a taxi to the airport.

I just read on Shuffaluff's post that taxi drivers are not tipped in Israel. Had no idea. Are there other service industry workers in Israel that are not tipped or tipped more/less than tourists expect? Also, are there taxi vans to Tel Aviv hotels (to hold up to 6 people) or is the only option to take 2 taxis?

I can't think of any other people who don't get tips in Israel but do in other countries.

There are no "taxi vans" to Tel Aviv from the airport. Your options are (a) train to Tel Aviv - assuming you are arriving on a day when trains are running - and two taxis from there; or (b) two taxis all the way from the airport.

For train times see:

The most convenient station for finding taxis (and the only one that is open throughout the night, if that's relevant) is Tel Aviv Centre Savidor.

Thank you. This is very helpful information. The train station in Tel Aviv is too far from our hotel, so we will stick with 2 cabs. I was glad to see the tips on TA about where to look for cabs outside the airport and not to accept invitations from vendors offering rides inside the airport. Very helpful advice once again. Thank you!
