In January, I booked 9 nights at The Chedi, Muscat, from 2nd March. I cancelled the booking two days ago when I heard that there had been demonstrations in 4 centres, 6 deaths reported, and the army deployed around Muscat and in the North. The Chedi were most unsympathetic, telling me that the situation was 'stable' and imposed their cancellation fee, charging me more than £1,600 including local tax even!
Today, I have heard that a friend and his family who live in Oman are leaving because of the deteriorating situation (a nearby hypermarket had been set on fire) and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has cancelled her State Visit with her two children. Stable, indeed! I hope she had not booked to stay at The Chedi.
Apparently, the US Embassy has warned foreigners to stay indoors.
