Cash or ATM ?

We are traveling to oman for 7 days, can we rely on using ATMs to get cash , or should we bring all our money as cash ? We will only be in muscat one day, then traveling to Sur, the desert sands and Nizwa. Thanks

There are ATMs all over the place, no need to carry huge amounts of cash.

Certainly bring a basic amount of cash in case something happens to your cards, but you can generally plan on finding an ATM anywhere you would need it. Most gas stations around Muscat have at least one ATM option, and shopping areas have multiple.

You will probably want to get enough cash in Muscat to cover trips outside of the capital, as you will likely need to make all purchases with cash.

As always, notify your bank that you will be traveling. Don't want any surprises! A separate piece of advice is to try to use ATMs attached to banks (which are open) whenever possible. I have seen, in Oman and elsewhere, cases of people traveling and having cards get stuck in the machine for whatever reason, resulting in the disruption of otherwise wonderful plans.
