Two days in Damascus

I will be traveling alone (this time) and will arrive in Damascus for my first-ever trip on 23rd May 2010 for two days.

Can anyone recommend:

1. A nice comfortable hotel where I can actually meet people. I am a sociable person!!

2. How to spend two days in Damascus? What to see and do?

3. Travel to Beirut? How and how long will it take?

4. As an Australian can I get a visa for Lebanon at the border?

Sorry for so may questions but thanks for any replies!
