help with hotels to maximise time on short stay

We have an 18 hour layover beginning of November. We arrive 19.40 and depart 13.45 next day. The grand mosque is a must see (in the morning after 9am when it's open) although would've been nice to see at night lit up too. We don't mind a 'dry' hotel if there's a bar nearby or a shopping mall would be good to get some fast food the evening we arrive and if we could see some of the cornice too. We'd just have hand luggage I think as flights are Etihad so think luggage should go straight through. So we'd probably be best getting a taxi everywhere (although we're happy with buses if they're regular) and not sure if we can do the mosque on the way to the airport if we took our hand luggage with us, or whether we'd be best returning to the hotel. We've looked at Ibis gate, Millenium (has a good offer on) and centro al manhal by rotana. We just want a comfy bed and quiet. We're happy walking anywhere that's practicable.Any suggestions or other recommendations are appreciated as we want to maximise our short time as well as getting some sleep! Returning we will just have the evening as fly back home to the UK at 10am. Thanks.

Ibis and Centro are both midrange brands; think slightly upmarket Premier Inn. Clean and modern but not luxury. They're both about half way between the airport and the city. Not sure if they're on a bus route but a taxi into the city shouldn't take more than 20 mins or cost much more than a fiver. They're both well situated for the mosque.

The mosque will be closed by the time you arrive but you can see it lit up from the street. Malls will probably be closed too but you can always get room service. All bars and clubs are in hotels if you need a drink.

With an early start you could see some of the corniche (it's v long and pretty much the same). The Al Marina end would be better as you could grab coffee in the mall and get some photos of the marina and cityscape. Then the mosque is en route to the airport and both hotels are nearby. Any hotel will look after your bags after you've checked out, but if you time it well you might even grab a quick shower back at the hotel before the midday check out. Then off to the airport ... but don't cut it too fine.

Google maps will make this all a lot clearer.
