Two night stop overs with a 3yr old...where to stay?!

Hi, we will have 2 x 2 night stop overs in Abu Dhabi (2 adults and a 3 year old) and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed by choice for hotel options! Any recommendations for two options for 4-5 star hotels in good locations. We'll probably spend much of the time at the pool/beach, with just a little bit of sightseeing. Thanks.

What time of year ? That will determine how much time you can spend outside, esp with the little one. Also what's your budget as hotel rates will vary with the season ?

For the beach you can stay in the city near the Corniche, on Yas Island which is a man-made resort near the airport, or somewhere in between like Al Raha.

That said, AD isn't that large and taxis are v cheap by western standards.

The Westin might be a good option you can usually get for a reasonable price and they have a lovely pool area and although there's nothing right next to it you are only 15 mins in a taxi to yas island with lots of places to go or approx 20 mins to the city.

You're only about 10 mins from airport too.

On yas island the Radisson has a nice pool too and you're walking distance to lots of other hotels and near to the marina

Thanks, will look into those suggestions. Traders has been recommended as well - any feedback on the location of Traders and pool/beach setup?

Traders is a good location, next to Shangri La Hotel and an area with a few restaurants and shops (Souq Qaryat Al Beri) . I am not sure of their pool facilities but they have a beach - although its on a creek and not the open ocean it still looks nice, but if you want a "proper" beach you would need to head over to the St Regis or Park Hyatt.

Traders have beach BBQs on the weekends and there is a small kids play park.

Across the creek is the Ritz Carlton, same beach set up, a bit stony but does look nice - they have a spectacular pool and a great separate kids splash area with small fountains and a separate kids club. I have stayed here - rooms are awesome :)

If you want to head to Saadiyat Island instead, its about 30 mins from airport, 10 mins from city - the 2 hotels there are more expensive but are really lovely, both have lovely beaches (white sand - turquiose water) and pools and both have kids clubs - the St Regis one has a great kids pool area with slides and fountains.

(I am a mum of a 3 year old hence the in depth knowledge of kids pools and playparks!).

Thanks so much for the suggestions :) One further question - which area (if any) is best for going running (assuming it's not too hot in September to run early/late in the day)?

There's a very recent thread in the Dubai forum about running, with all shades of opinion represented. As an Aussie you may be ok with the heat and extreme humidity.

Weather notwithstanding, the Corniche is several miles of promenade next to sea for running, cycling and swimming. But it's at the far end the city, a cab ride away from the locations recommended in this thread.

I took a nice relaxed walk there this morning before a late weekend breakfast.

Yas island is also great for running there are a lots of safe pathways around the island and many running groups use this area.

Saadiyat Island is not too bad for running either, although I agree Yas is better. As mentioned, it can be very humid in September so might be very unpleasant.
