Estansia daytrip / overnight, ex Montevideo or Cordoba?

Hi there!

I'll be in Uruguay next month and I wonder if it is possible to see or stay in an estancia, starting from Montevideo or Cordoba (not really luxurious, expensive etc).

Could be possible on a day trip or stay the night.

But I' ll travel by public transport so cannot just drive there -much better if being near easy access with bus, or they pick up, or take a guided tour ex these 2 cities, or...?

Any idea for where to look, feasibility, cost, would be really great!

many thanks

Nikos

Do you mean Cordoba in argentina or Colonia in Uruguay. There are very nice places near Colonia, search : LA vigna www.lavignalifestyle.com/ lavigna.com.ar or www.fincapiedra.com

This is one of the best and closer option near montevideo 40km, http://www.larabida.com.uy/, but they just work with group and through travel agents

, Don Joaquin is cheaper (san jose) is 1 hr from montevideo pro: bus stop very close but con: not the most scenic

thanks Milu, I'll check both!

While in Uruguay, I might also look for booking at tourist agents, since, as you say, some estancias work through them.

they would also solve the transportation problem to remote /difficult places.

but, they might offer limited choises , probably expensive and booking last minute could be gambling -everything or nothing!

so, better do some homework...

happy travels!

san pedro de Timote is one of my favourites, it deserves a night at least, and it takes 3 hours to get there from montevideo

www.sanpedrodetimote.com.uy

enjoy your trip, milu

www.delasanimas.com.uy sounds pretty good: 1 hour 15 away from Montevideo and only 50 U$S p/p with breakfast included.

I don´t know it in person, but I searched at www.infoturismo.com.uy

Hope it helps!
