When planning to visit Uruguay? The season is important.

Visit Colonia in a day, Montevideo 2 days&2 nights, Punta del Este 2 days (one night in winter, two in summer)

Read for some tips: tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g294066-i5832-k703…

You will travel by bus or going to rent a car? From Colonia to MVD: 180km (02:45'hs by bus), MVD to Punta del Este: 140km (2hs by bus).

By bus schedules (from MVD, only spanish), read: www.trescruces.com.uy

"From there we'll go to Iguazu Falls (if anyone has any suggestions on places to stop on route to break up the 24 hour bus ride... " There isn't regular bus service linking Uruguay with Iguazú Falls, only to Asuncion or Encarnación in Paraguay (closest to Falls) You could cross to Argentina and take a bus from some city in this country to the falls.

Thank-you for this advice. All spot on and useful.

I think we'll go from MVD to Fray Bentos and hop over the border there and get a bus to the falls from there.

A good site to know schedules and bus company (in argentine) is http://www.plataforma10.com/.

Be lucky!
