Punta del Este vs La Barra (Dec-Jan)

We'll be travelling around Argentina for three weeks in mid-December to early Jan and are looking to spend a few days somewhere beachy/resort-y. Thought it might be nice to hop over to Uruguay anyway to visit Colonia. Grateful for your thoughts on your comparisons between and your preferences for Punta del Este and La Barra at that time of year? Or alternatively, to instead stick to some of the beach areas in Argentina?

Definitely Uruguay beaches over Argentinian ones.

La Barra is more laid back, low rise, than Punta del Este proper. There are few hotels in La Barra, so book early if going there. Better beaches on Playa Brava in Punta, or in Jose Ignacio, than in La Barra. There are good beaches just outside La Barra, in Manantiales. Lots of restaurants in La Barra and Manantiales.

You choose!

Hi tripdee, I´m Fernando Semproni from Indoor Uruguay (local inbound agency at Uruguay).

Both places are excellent options but if you want to be there at the last week of the year you have to book ASAP !!!

Both places have excellent hotels, restaurantes, beaches and everything.

La Barra is only 5 minutes by car from Punta del Este downtown.

Best regards
