Reputable bus companies to use and ideas for a 2 week trip..

I am leaving from new Zealand to go on my first South America adventure with my boyfriend.

I have been traveling for the last 2 years and am really looking forward to this part of the trip.

I do have some reservations....

I am very pale skinned with red hair - the only reason i bring this up is the amount of attention i received in India....

I am flying into Bogota and have about 2 weeks to spend in Colombia. Unfortunately I am unable to fly due to my lack of funds.

I was just looking for advise about the best places to visit - Bogota, Santa Marta, Medellin, Bogota loop was a possible idea. I will then be traveling by bus to Ecuador.

What is a reputable bus company in Colombia? And a reputable company that will get me across the border to Ecuador safely.

Colombian complexions are as diverse as their country; various blends of cultures, beauty products have mixed to create a wide range of facial tones and hair colours. You may encounter the staring phenomenon on occasion; especially in smaller towns and remote coastal areas, this is mostly the result of curiosity. Colombians in general are very hospitable, proud and are eager to show you their country.

Most of the major Colombian bus companies are safe and reliable; however they will take up a lot of your travel time on longer routes. The larger companies i.e. – Bolivariano, Flota La Magdalena , Expreso Brasilia offer direct service and run the more comfortable Pullman style buses. You would be advised to check out air transportation prices; many National Colombian air carries routinely slash their prices on the more competitive routes, subsequent promo fares are even half price of similar bus fares. To save pesos book your tickets on their Colombian web –sites.

Just go to the bus station, bargain a good price/seat. You can take any bus company, no need to be nervous.
