How far in advance is it necessary to make reservations for domestic flights? we will be traveling in late January, early February.

Many thanks!

For Jan as far in advance as possible. Flights can get very expensive in peak periods.

Are there any domestic flights within Colombia that are direct between places? I can only find them going via Bogota?

Yes there are, for example Satena flys between Medellin( city airport) and Cali

Not sure not VivaColombia, but be aware - almost impossible to book with them using a US credit card while still in States

There's also EasyFly;no one seems to mention them, their niche is mostly moving oil workers to/fro ~ petroleum locations.

There are lots of direct flight that do not fly via Bogotá

Off the top of my head

Bogotá is not a VivaColombia hub so none of their flights go through Bogotá (although you can put together an itinerary that goes via Bogotá probably)

LAN has Pereira to Medellín EOH which is a handy one

As playa4u points out, EasyFly has lots of random direct routes

Avianca has Medellín to Santa Marta, Cartagena and Cali, plus Cali to Pasto, and Pereira to Cartagena

Aerolineas de Antioquia has lots of funky routes out of Medellín EOH, most usefully Armenia and Pereira in a little Jetstream 32
