New Year's Eve in Colombia

I have 5 days to spend for this year's Holiday (New Years). I am traveling with a friend and we are both single women that enjoy nightlife/fun/good music and culture.

Should we spend New Year's in Bogota or Cartegena?

Shoud we see Cartegena first and then go to Bogota? I have been to Bogota twice and really like the city (live in Miami, USA ) and am a "city" person who loves the beach.

What to do?

Hola...

If you decide to stay in Bogota, you should spend new years in Andres Carne de Res. A very famous and unique restaurant/disco located just outside Bogota y a place called Chia.

It also depend where you will be staying. Most hotels have a party organised. Cartagena is always a great option because of the nice warm weather and although people celebrate in bars and restaurants or hotels the atmosphere within the city walls is just fantastic.... go to Cafe del Mar on top of the actual wall.

Have fun and enjoy Colombia!

Is Cafe Havana in Getsemani? Is that area OK for white gringos?

Didn't know if we'd be safer nearer the walled city part of Cartagena?

What a lovely reply, thank you K.

Just out of interest, 'gringo' is not a word that is really used at all in the UK.

Isn't a gringo a tourist? ... or am I not really the typical 'cruise ship type' tourist if you know what I mean (no offence intended).

How would you describe a 'gringo'?

Here in Mexico, a gringo is someone from the USA. So, no, lady from Chorlton, you and I are not gringos. If you google the word, you'll find a lot of discussion on its origins/meaning. Some people think it's a bit pejorative, but no more than us calling them over there Yanks and them calling us Brits.

Hi - I'm a blond germanic type from California married into a Colombian (Bogota/Bucaramanga) family 18 years ago, and I happily respond to "hey gringita!" It's all in the tone - it's pejorative if it sounds pejorative-- especially from strangers. In my family, it's affectionate. And, we're thinking of spending this NYE at Andres DC - the urban sister of Andres Carnes de Res in Chia. We love the Chia spot, but are living in the city and don't want to figure out how to stumble home!
