I was thinking a tour of the city to view the Christmas lights.

However you will be heading to the airport as it gets dark. You could add Museo de Oro to Daniel's good list

You could start with Museo del Oro (you shall do it a bit faster than it should be done though, try to stick to 1.5 hrs no more), then Plaza de Bolivar and its surroundings, then go to La Candelaria and get up to Iglesia de Egipto which is top of Candelaria hill, with a nice viewpoint over of the city. All by feet of course. The street to walk up to Egypt Church (Iglesia de Egipto) is a bit steep.

You can do it all by feet, and if you do it in this precise order, you will avoid back and forths. This would nicely fill a 3.5 to 4 hrs time. Add up taxi time from and to the airport and you're done. If you feel you are a bit out of time, skip the climb up to Iglesia de Egipto. You may also replace it by a nice time a in cafe in La Calanderia, sipping a beer, a good coffee, or some chicha (traditional fermented corn drink, slightly alcoholized). Be careful for your way back to the airport, from 4 or 5pm, traffic get congested, and transit time to the airport may become more like one hour than 30 mins. This is why I am advising not to take too much time in the museum. It does take time to admire the 30,000+ artefacts of the museum.

Bogota is 2,625 m (8,612 ft) above sea level you may want to take it a little easy on the uphill hikes, long walkabouts and the alcoholic bevies.

For those of us who know Bogota well, it’s horrendous trancones (traffic jams) and ongoing road construction can slow traveling downtown to a snail’s pace. Considering your long day I would keep it simple, select a few locations close together. My picks are the Museo Del Oro, if you have time left la Plaza de Bolivar and the Catedral Primada adjacent – Plaza Bolivar, a 15 minute walk from the museum. Being the holiday season the Plaza will have a full on Christmas display. Watch your stuff like a hawk pickpockets frequent these areas looking for tired tourists.

The taxi ride downtown; before you leave the airport (international exit) you can use the ATM to get some pesos. Next stop is the safe taxi kiosk; they will give you a print out with the destination and the correct fare (26k - 30k pesos), then line up.

On the return trip to the airport rush-hour will be in full swing finding an empty taxi may take an act of God : )To grab a cab Ave. Septima runs one way > north on the fringe of Plaza Bolivar, avoid the busy corners for faster service.

One more thing; if you stay less than 24hrs. you'll be required to get an excencion or exit stamp, you won't need to pay if your visit is less than 60 days.
